September 8th, 2006: a small update to RAR Expander which upgrades the unrar core to the latest version (v3.60) has been released as v0.8.5 beta 3. The previous betas of v0.8.5 used beta versions of this latest unrar core. As the unrar core is now considered stable, this is probably the last beta of v0.8.5 and a stable version will be released in the coming days.
June 19th, 2006: RAR Expander version 0.8.4 and 0.8.5-beta 1 released. Version v0.8.4 should fix a critical crash that occurred on Intel-based Macs when expanding password-protected or malformed multi-part archives. The new beta version features an improved password entry dialog, supports expanding password-protected archives via AppleScript, was updated to use the latest unrar core and fixes a small bug.
February 17th, 2006: Users who beta tested RAR Expander on their new Intel-based macs have confirmed it is working as expected! Thus a new stable release of RAR Expander is now available which is compiled as a Universal Binary and should therefore run faster on Intel-based macs than the previous version of RAR Expander. Thanks Christoph, Randall and Nick!
February 4th, 2006: Due to time constraints no new news items were posted in the RAR Expander news feed since version 0.7, but probably most of you using the application noticed the release of version 0.8 through RAR Expander's auto version update check. The release of today, v0.8.2, is only a small update for users of PowerPC-based Macs, but for those who already have an Intel-based Mac the also newly released beta is a first chance to test a Universal Binary version of RAR Expander that should run faster than the existing releases of RAR Expander on these macs. One big warning though: this beta is really a beta, or should I say alpha release, as I have not been able to test it on an Intel-based mac. If any users with an Intel-based Mac wish to help me in this, please download and try the beta, but please keep the usual warnings for beta software in mind!!
Each build is available to test for up to 90 days, starting from the day the developer uploads their build. You can see how many days you have left for testing under the app name in TestFlight. TestFlight will notify you each time a new build is available and will include instructions on what you need to test. Alternatively, with TestFlight 3 or later, you can turn on automatic updates to have the latest beta builds install automatically.
When the testing period is over, you'll no longer be able to open the beta build. To install the App Store version of the app, download or purchase the app from the App Store. In-app purchases are free only during beta testing, and any in-app purchases made during testing will not carry over to App Store versions.
Note: To automatically download additional in-app content and assets in the background once a beta app is installed in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS 13, turn on Additional In-App Content in your App Store settings for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
You can send feedback through the TestFlight app or directly from the beta app or beta App Clip by taking a screenshot, and you can report a crash after it occurs. If you were invited to test an app with a public link, you can choose not to provide your email address or other personal information to the developer. Apple will also receive all feedback you submit and will be able to tie it to your Apple ID.
If your device is running iOS 12.4 or earlier, tap Send Beta Feedback to compose an email to the developer. The feedback email contains detailed information about the beta app and about your iOS device. You can also provide additional information, such as necessary screenshots and steps required to reproduce any issues. Your email address will be visible to the developer when you send email feedback through the TestFlight app even if you were invited through a public link.
When you take a screenshot while testing a beta app or beta App Clip, you can send the screenshot with feedback directly to the developer without leaving the app or App Clip Experience. Developers can opt out of receiving this type of feedback, so this option is only available if the developer has it enabled.
When you test beta apps or beta App Clips with TestFlight, Apple will collect and send crash logs, your personal information such as name and email address, usage information, and any feedback you submit to the developer. Information that is emailed to the developer directly is not shared with Apple. The developer is permitted to use this information only to improve their app and is not permitted to share it with a third party. Apple may use this information to improve the TestFlight app.
When you send feedback through TestFlight or send crash reports or screenshots from the beta app, the following additional information is shared. This information is collected by Apple and shared with developers. Apple retains the data for one year.
Clinical trials have shown a significant increase in incidence of lung cancer among smokers and asbestos workers supplemented with beta-carotene, suggesting a tumor-promoting activity for this agent. We set out to test possible tumor-promoting and chemopreventive activities of dietary and topical beta-carotene in the two-stage 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene-12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA) model of mouse skin carcinogenesis. In the first study, the effects of three levels of dietary beta-carotene (6, 60, and 600 micrograms/g purified diet containing no other retinoid or carotenoid) were assessed over a period of 42 weeks. Carcinoma yield was reduced by approximately 50% in the 600 micrograms/g diet group (mean 0.22 carcinomas/mouse) compared with the 6 micrograms/g diet group (mean 0.44 carcinomas/mouse, p = 0.003). The 60 micrograms/g diet group showed a pattern of inhibition similar to the 600 micrograms/g diet group. A protective effect (25% reduction) of beta-carotene (in the 600 micrograms/g diet group) on papilloma formation was also found. However, the intermediate 60 micrograms/g diet group showed the same incidence as the low 6 micrograms/g diet group. This points to a lack of correlation between papilloma and carcinoma incidence, as we also found in previous work on dietary retinoids and carotenoids. The purpose of the second study was to assess whether topical beta-carotene (2 micrograms) has tumor-promoting or chemopreventive activity in the two-stage protocol. In the absence of TPA, beta-carotene had no significant tumor-promoting activity. Instead, papilloma yield induced by TPA was decreased by topical beta-carotene from an average of 20 to approximately 10 papillomas/mouse (p = 2.5 x 10(-7)). The effect of topical beta-carotene persisted beyond the treatment period (Week 24) until the termination of the study at Week 42. Western blot analysis of mouse skin extracts showed that topical beta-carotene upregulated retinoic acid receptor-alpha and -gamma expression in the dorsal skin. This finding suggests that beta-carotene may work as a chemopreventive agent by upregulating the expression of retinoid receptors in mouse skin. In conclusion, our data show that beta-carotene prevents skin carcinoma formation, induces retinoic acid receptor expression, and fails to act as a tumor promoter in the two-stage model of skin tumorigenesis.
