I was having the same issue....following the advice of WimS, I inserted any other dvd I had laying around, the install of course didn't find any drivers, but I switched back to the 2008 R2 dvd and the install proceeded without issue.
I am trying into Install windows 2008 R2 on Vmware workstation 8 issue installation got stucked saying required CD/DVD driver is missing it looks like missing SATA/AHCI controller drivers. Is there any patch or fix for resolving this issue .
Standard VMware ESXi ISO, is the easiest and most reliable way to install ESXi on HPE servers. It includes all of the required drivers and management software to run ESXi on HPE servers, and works seamlessly with Intelligent Provisioning.
Certain HPE servers require the use of the HPE Customized image for a successful installation. The drivers for the new network and storage controllers in the servers are integrated in the HPE Customized image and are not part of the generic ESXi image that is distributed by VMware. ESXi requires drivers for these controllers to be integrated as you are not able to insert them during installation. To determine if your server requires the HPE Customized image, refer to the Server Support Matrix.
At this point, you can install additional drivers one of two ways: via the vSphere CLI, where you run the files from your own workstation, or via the esxupdate command on the ESX host itself. I personally prefer to do it directly from the ESX host as that's one less variable to flub up.

If you simply try to install Windows Server 2016 in a VM with the VMware Paravirtual SCSI controller behind the hard disk you are booting from, Windows will not see any drives available for the install. However, we can click the Load Driver link to browse to the driver we need to install.
We can get the driver from the VMware tools ISO image. A simple way to have access to both your Operating system install and VMware tools is to mount an additional CD/DVD drive to the VM. Make sure both are connected (had already disconnected the second drive when I captured the below screen clip).
With Windows Server 2016 Install VMware Paravirtual SCSI controller requires that we browse to the driver files located on the VMware tools ISO. As I show above, a simple way to do this without much effort is to add a second CD/DVD drive to the VM and then mount the VMware tools ISO to this drive. After that, we can browse to the driver files the operating system needs to install the PVSCSI controller.
Our PTP adapters use the standard Linux drivers (either installed via a driver RPM or part of an Onload installation). The Enhanced PTP Daemon (sfptpd) takes full advantage of all the PTP hardware features available on our PTP adapters.
NOTE: The Desktop Experience or Server Core installation options of Windows Server 2016 are supported (Nano Server installations are not supported). The v4.x drivers and tools are certified for Windows Server 2008 R2; Windows Server 2012; and Windows Server 2012 R2. The v4.x package will install compatible Windows Server 2012 R2 drivers and tools on Windows Server 2016 systems.
These pages contain OEM-validated drivers and software for adapters that are purchased from Dell and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. For the latest Solarflare drivers and software please select Drivers and Software.
The Linux diagnostics (sfreport) is a script that can be used to generate an HTML report which contains information on the system, drivers and adapter which is useful to Solarflare support and engineering teams.
The ESXi-Customizer-PS PowerShell script ( -front.de/p/esxi-customizer-ps.html) can be used to integrate drivers and updates into the ESXi 5.x, 6.x, and 7.0 installation images. To use this script, you must have VMware PowerCLI installed on your computer.
If you receive: An unexpected error occured: Could not find trusted signer while exporting the image, disable driver signature verification with the -nsc (-noSignatureCheck) option. Also, try this option if an error occurs:
Save ESXi-Customizer.cmd file and run it. In the next window, specify the path to the source ESXi ISO image, the driver file (VIB file or TGZ archive with drivers), and the folder, to which the resulting image with the integrated driver must be saved. Uncheck the automatic update option.
I finally got annoyed. I have 2x esxi production hosts and 2x proxmox hosts that are my homelab testing hosts. The only reason tehy dont have esxi on them is the fact my dell optiplex mciro sff 7080s dont recongize nic and sata drivers. WEll that is now fixedI also moved my production esxi hots from 6..5 to 6.7 and vcenter to 6.7 as wellThanks for this guide!
If you have network access to your host, then you could simply do the install via SSH, following a similar process to the steps below but instead of mounting an ISO you could simply copy the drivers to the local datastore or something like that.
Hi Luca, Thanks for this post, 2 days back I was looking for installing network card drivers in my EXSi host, one card was detected while I was having problem with detection of other NIC due to the drivers issue. I follow your blog and I really appreciate your hard work. Keep it up!
Note: For optimal user experience and seamless interoperability, Marvell recommends that customers upgrade to the latest drivers posted on this page and then upgrade the flash image on their adapters. Refer to the 41000 Series User Guide or included Readme for more update instruction information.
The following drivers are only needed if you are running Arch Linux on a hypervisor like VMware vSphere Hypervisor. Client-server applications can write to the VMCI Sock (vsock) interface to make use of the VMCI virtual device, when communicating between virtual machines.
Originally, VMware Tools provided the best drivers for network and storage, combined with the functionality for other features such as time synchronization. However, now the drivers for the network/SCSI adapter are part of the Linux kernel.
However, if booting into multi-user.target or using an uncommon setup (e.g. multiple monitors), then vmtoolsd.service needs to be enabled. In addition to this, run Xorg as root to give permission for loading drivers.
Note: The recommended choice for virtual storage controller is VMware Paravirtual SCSI (PVSCSI). Refer to add the PVSCSI driver to Windows ISO or provide the driver to Windows during installation by following process mentioned in the section \"To install PVSCSI drivers through CD/DVD drive (Recommended)\" of KB
This article helps resolve an issue in which you can't install drivers in virtual machines that are hosted on VMware. This issue occurs if you don't select the \"Allow service to interact with desktop\" checkbox.
This issue occurs for security reasons. The Telnet Server service makes some permission changes to the window station in which it's running during initialization. If you configure the Telnet Server service to run by using the Local System account without the ability to interact with the desktop, it's started under a different window station. This may cause problems for other processes that also run under the Local System account and don't interact with the desktop. One such process is the driver install process that is used during installation of a new device driver.
The provider parameter in cloud provider configuration was renamed to driver. This change was made to avoid confusion with the provider parameter that isused in cloud profile configuration. Cloud provider configuration now uses driverto refer to the salt-cloud driver that provides the underlying functionality toconnect to a cloud provider, while cloud profile configuration continues to useprovider to refer to the cloud provider configuration that you define.
Unlike most cloud drivers that use prepared images, creating VMs using VMwarecloud driver needs an installation method that requires no human interaction. For Example: preseeded ISO, kickstart URL or network PXE boot. 59ce067264
